JEDDAH: Twenty cars are competing in the two-day second round of Speed Star Championship 2009, which kicks off at the Jeddah Raceway Circuit on Wednesday (Sept. 2).

Sayeed Al Moori, a phenomenon in the exciting motorsport, charged through the grueling qualification process and stayed on the top in the 1st round held recently.

The championship consists of three rounds. In each round, participants are required to display their driving-style technique in a twisting track specifically designed for the championship. The races are judged on time, and drivers accumulate points from each round with the title awarded to the driver with the most points. The results will be based on the points collected: 20 points for 1st position, 15 for the 2nd, 12 for the 3rd, 10 for the 4th, 8 for the 5th, 6 for the 6th, 4 for the 7th and 2 for the 8th.

There will be cash awards for the winners — SR10,000 for the 1st, SR6,000 for the 2nd and SR3,000 for the 3rd. To enter the championship, a rear wheel or all wheel drive car and the desire to compete are the only requirements.

The competition, which is being staged for the third year in running, is sponsored by Mobile 1 and Gear One Channel, the media sponsor, under the direct supervision of the Saudi Motorsport Federation, Abdullah Bakhashab, the organizer of the championship, told the media on Monday.
