RIYADH: Three expatriates identified as “Asian” were arrested in the old industrial neighborhood of Riyadh on Wednesday on charges of robbing a cab driver.
Police sources said a police team started looking for the robbers on receiving a call from a cabbie that his passengers robbed him. The three men, of the same nationality as the driver, entered the taxi at the old district and asked him to go to the city center. Then, according to the victim, one of the men put a knife behind the neck of the driver and ordered him to drive to a different location.
When they reached an isolated location, the men allegedly took the driver’s money and mobile phone and escaped in another cab. Police said the three men and the car were located in a nearby district with the help of local residents. Police said they were able to recover the stolen goods and return them to the driver.
In another development, a special police team arrested eight members of a criminal gang. They all were illegal residents identified as being from a neighboring country. Police said they were specialized in burglarizing homes in Batha and nearby districts. A special investigative unit started looking for the gang following numerous complaints of home invasions, a police source said.
