RIYADH: The Ministry of Health announced on Sunday three more deaths linked to swine flu in the Kingdom after three Saudi women died, bringing the total number of fatalities caused by the virus in Saudi Arabia to 26.
Health Minister Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah conveyed his deepest sympathies to the bereaved families on behalf of the health officials in the Kingdom. He said that the Kingdom is exerting every effort to control the spread of the virus, such as implementing the second phase of the national swine flu campaign.
The Ministry of Health has distributed 500,000 brochures among Saudis and expatriates in the capital to carry the health message against H1N1.
Health officials distributed the brochures on the highly crowded Tahlia Street and at Hayat Mall. The Health Ministry also set up an information booth to give more details.
About 3,500 people in the Kingdom have contracted the H1N1 virus; 98 percent of them have recovered. The number of swine flu cases reported in Makkah has reached 265 while in Madinah the number of reported cases is 206.
Health Ministry spokesman Dr. Khaled Al-Mirghalani told Arab News that the whole idea of the campaign is to ensure that a maximum number of people receive the precautionary health message.
In June, the ministry launched the awareness campaign through posters and billboards.
