JEDDAH: Sayeed Al Moori clocked 00:52.443 to win the 2nd round of Speed Star Championship 2009 at Jeddah Raceway Jeddah over the weekend. He had topped the championship’s 1st round. Ahmad Al-Esa with 00:55.995 was the first runner-up and Faisal Al Sharief the second runner-up with 00:56.775.
“I am delighted to win the first two rounds of the championship and am looking forward to the final round and becoming the overall champion,” Al-Moori, a motorsport phenomenon, said.
A large gathering of families watched the high-speed action at the championship’s penultimate round. The race was very interesting, especially among those who used their modified cars.
The participants were divided into four classes based on the capacity of their vehicle engine, its power and its production year. There were standard six cylinders, modified six cylinders, modified eight cylinders and standard eight cylinders. After the technical test on the first day, each participant had to make a free tour through the track. Then the drivers had two trials to collect the best time.
The speed star series, described as the first national driving skills championship series in the Kingdom, was first held in 2007. “Speed star is a fast growing motorsport, with a growing fan base,” Abdullah Bakhashab, motorsport developer in the Kingdom and organizer of the championship, said.
