JEDDAH: Residents in Al-Ain and Al-Salam neighborhoods in Jeddah protested to the Municipal Council against the permission issued to build high-rise buildings in their districts.
The Chairman of the Municipal Council Tariq Fadak and its Secretary-General Abdul Aziz Al-Aqqad reassured the complainants that their problems would be studied and the issue resolved.
The major complaints of the residents are that the high-rise buildings when constructed around their houses would violate their privacy, impact on their parking spaces and also affect their utilities, which do not have the capacity to serve alarge number of people.
Fadak reassured the residents that steps would be taken to protect the privacy of their homes and enhance the capacity of the utilities in their area.
He told them that the permission to construct high-rise buildings was issued in order to reduce the density of buildings in the area.
He added that the Municipal Council has limited the number of floors to four instead of seven stories as the original license had indicated. He said the decision was taken by a majority of the Municipal Council members.
Some of the protesters expressed their unhappiness at the approval of the Municipal Council to build four-story buildings before the builders could provide architectural solutions to protect the privacy of the homes in the neighborhood.
