JEDDAH: The mother of Mazen Abdul Jawad, the man facing trial for bragging about his sexual exploits on a major satellite channel in July, has suffered a nervous breakdown when she first came to know about the plight of her son, one of her eight children.
Since her son was arrested in connection with his outrageous talk about sex on LBC’s “Bold Red Line” program, she has been in and out of hospital suffering from hypertension.
“My son is a victim. I am constantly praying to Allah to help my son come out safely from this predicament,” she told local daily Al-Watan in an interview published on Sunday.
The mother, referred to only by the initials “S.R.” said society has been very harsh on her son and on her family after her son went on the program making prurient statements, including that he lost his virginity to a neighbor when he was 14 and describing graphically his sexual techniques. The program airs at 9 p.m. on Wednesday nights.
“Our life has drastically changed. We have become restless and nervous. We do not eat or sleep enough,” she said.
Her son could face charges stemming from publicizing vice and his illegal behavior (premarital sex is prohibited in the Kingdom) which could lead him to face punitive measures, such as jail time and/or lashes. It is unclear at this time if the court will accept the footage of the program as a confession.
Abdul Jawad claims the show’s producers took hours of footage and edited it down to a minutes-long segment.
The newspaper report went on to claim its reporter could not tell the mother that the summary court will begin the trial after Eid because one of her sons warned the reporter that her heart was too weak to receive the news.
“We are afraid that we may lose her,” the newspaper quoted the son as saying. “She is in a very precarious situation since she came to know about the case of her son.”
The mother denied that her son had any previous social or psychological problems.
“He was considerate and tender to me, to his brothers and sons,” she said.
“He is very religious, always reciting the Qur’an. You can ask the imam of the mosque in our area.”
