MADINAH: Muscular young men dressed in black have been hired for mall security in a number of Madinah shopping centers.
The men are likely to be the first responders to sexual harassment by young men before the arrival of the police or members of the Commission for the Promotion and Virtue and Prevention of Vice, who are working with the private security to make the malls harassment-free zones. These mall cops can now been seen at Al-Rashid, Aliat Al-Madina and Al-Nour shopping centers.
Mohammad Al-Muwallad, the head of security at Al-Rashid Megamall, told Al-Watan daily that 75 guards are now patrolling the mall. They are sometimes seen accompanied by women guards. The mall has also installed 145 CCTV cameras.
