RIYADH: Border guards in Arda, in the Empty Quarter of the Eastern Province, foiled an attempt to smuggle 1,207 kgs of hashish and various weapons into the Kingdom on Sunday, Border Guard spokesman Lt. Col. Salim Al-Sulami announced on Tuesday.

He said officers in the Arda sector tracked down a 2007 Toyota Land Cruiser when the driver attempted to flee a checkpoint. Police detained two Saudi men and confiscated 1,207 kgs of hashish in addition to weapons, ammunition and cell phones.
