JEDDAH: Security officers combed the Basateen shopping center in Jeddah’s Tahlia Street on Wednesday evening after an SMS message circulated through mobile phones claimed a bomb had been placed there.
Col. Misfar Al-Juaid, spokesman for the Jeddah police, denied reports carried by a number of blogs of a possible terrorist attack on the shopping center. He warned the public against baseless rumors spread by bloggers and urged them to depend on reliable official sources for information.
Arab News found a number of security vehicles around the center during Isha prayers on Wednesday night, but situation returned to normal soon after the prayers. Many shoppers told Arab News they did not notice anything unusual.
