MADINAH: A four-year-old child died when the makeshift house of his family in Mushrifa district of Yanbu Al-Bahr caught fire on Saturday. The cause of the fire was attributed to firecrackers discharged by children inside the house.
Col. Mansour Al-Johani, spokesman of Civil Defense in Madinah province, confirmed the report and said a Saudi family was living in the house.
“Soon after hearing the news, our department sent firefighters and rescue workers to the site,” he said. “Our officers found a charred body of four-year-old boy inside a room in the house.”
Al-Johani said initial investigation showed that the fire occurred when children played with firecrackers inside the house. Discharging fireworks is a common activity among children and young adults at the advent of the Eid holiday.
Another fire accident took place in Qiblatain district of Madinah on Saturday, he said. Civil Defense dispatched five teams, including firefighters and rescue workers to quell the fire in a four-story building.
People living in the building were quickly evacuated. During the evacuation, Civil Defense officers had to intervene to stop a quarrel between two groups of the building’s residents. Nobody was injured in the fire that destroyed the building’s electrical system.
