RIYADH: The national Family Safety Program launched on Wednesday the National Child Abuse and Child Neglect Registry at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center.

The registry is designed to collect data from all regions and villages of the Kingdom about child abuse and child neglect in hospitals in order to understand the extent of the problem of abused children in the Kingdom. With this knowledge, social workers hope to have a better understanding on how to help victims and to protect them against maltreatment.

Princess Adela bint Abdullah said that the registry is a product of collaboration between all health establishments in the Kingdom since they are the first to be in touch with victims and are best equipped to detect abuse and to record physical evidence. “Child abuse and neglect is increasing in this society remarkably, and it is our responsibility to put an end to it,” she said.
