KOLHAPUR/MUMBAI: With a day left for the polls campaign coming to end for the Maharashtra Assembly polls to be held on Oct. 13, the Congress president and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi said in Kolhapur that the Congress had fulfilled all its assurances given to the people during the last Assembly polls in Maharashtra.
Speaking at a election rally, Sonia said that if the people want the development of Maharashtra and Kolhapur then they should return the Congress-NCP Democratic Front government back to power. She also assured that the Congress-NCP would once again fulfill the assurances given in their manifesto this time, too.
In another development, Raj Thackeray, president of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) launched an attack on the two major political coalitions — the Congress-NCP alliance and the Shiv Sena-BJP saffron combine for what he described as “their inefficiency.”
Taking on the Democratic Front as well as the opposition, he asked: “What they have done in their 10 years of rule. There is an energy crisis, water is not available, farmers are committing suicides, local people are losing jobs. This was what the government of the day has done. But at the same time what were you (referring to Sena-BJP) doing?”
At the same time, he pleaded people to support him and ended his 40-minute speech by saying: “Vote for us, Raj will show what he can do.”
