JEDDAH: A Madinah court has once again adjourned a hearing into the case of two young brothers who died after getting stuck in an artesian well in the holy city two years ago.
The boys’ father, Faiz Al-Mutairi, is accusing both Madinah municipality and the Civil Defense of not doing enough to save his sons.
The boys, Mushari, 12, and Fahd, 6, died in the well during a 2007 accident.
Members of the Civil Defense worked till 3 a.m. to dig them out, but both boys were taken out dead. A source said that the case has been delayed following the introduction of a new party in the case, Madinah’s Health Affairs Department. Judges decided to adjourn the case to review it.
The hearing has been rescheduled for Nov. 4, said the source, adding that it is likely that the judges presiding over the case will issue their verdicts in November.
The Health Affairs Department in Madinah has presented two different documents detailing the reasons why Mushari and Fahd died.
In April 2008 it was reported that Faiz Al-Mutairi was claiming SR10 million in compensation — SR5 million from the Madinah municipality and SR5 million from the Civil Defense.
The well in which the boys fell was 12 meters deep and 15 inches wide.
The source said that the father filed a complaint against the Health Affairs Department at the Madinah Administrative Court after he learned about the two different reports.
The complainant also filed a case against them because he learned that the Civil Defense had requested a copy of the report, which he claims is not their right.
