RIYADH: Liverpoool Football Club owner George Gillette is to visit the Kingdom for a four-day meeting with F6 Sports Investment Company which was reported interested in buying shares at the debt-ridden English Premier League team.
According to an F6 press release the meeting will take place in Riyadh starting Wednesday. Gillette’s visit here followed a Sept. 30 meeting in London between Prince Faisal bin Fahd bin Abdullah, CEO of the F6 Group, and Gillette, the American businessman who owns 50 percent shares of the club together with co-owner Tom Hicks. During the negotiations the two parties agreed on introducing sports projects and pave the way for new investments. Also discussed was the possibility of F6 buying Liverpool shares. It was reported prior to their London meeting that the F6 CEO was “seeking to own a 50 percent stake in the club.”
The press release said, one of the prime targets is to open sport academies around the Middle East and Africa and to introduce the NASCAR series to the Middle East. These measures are taken in order for F6 and the region to establish itself internationally and to compete at the highest level.
During his stay in the Kingdom Gillette will meet members of the royal family and representatives of the sports industry.
