JEDDAH: A Saudi woman journalist on Wednesday denied involvement in the preparation of LBC’s “Bold Red Line” program in which a man appeared last July and boasted about his sex exploits.
The Prosecution and Investigation Commission (PIC) last Monday handed the woman journalist a list of charges against her which included involvement in the preparation of the program and its subject, coordination with the braggart Mazen Abdul Jawad openly on a satellite channel and advertising the episode on the Internet to attract a large number of viewers.
Sources close to the summary court in Jeddah told Arab News that the defendant categorically denied the charges, claiming she was only a part-time employee at the Lebanese channel and asked the presiding judge to postpone the trial until Saturday in order to be able to present evidence proving her innocence. The judge agreed to the request.
The court asked the police to forcibly bring the two Saudi women journalists accused of being involved in the incident after they refused to show up to 10 sessions the court held in the case against Abdul Jawad and three other accomplices.
The other journalist who worked in the Riyadh office of LBC refused to appear before the court.
The court has already sentenced the sex braggart to five years imprisonment and 1,000 lashes. He was also prevented from traveling abroad while in jail, and the car and mobile phone that he used to pick up girls were confiscated.
His three other accomplices were given three years in jail in addition to 300 lashes to be applied in installments.
