MUMBAI: The Congress party would prefer to sit in the opposition benches but would never seek the support of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena ((MNS) to form the government, said Federal Industries Minister and former chief minister of Maharashtra Vilasrao Deshmukh.
To a question whether the Congress-NCP alliance would seek the support of other political parties, independents or rebels, Deshmukh said that he did not think that the Congress-NCP alliance would need the support of anyone as it would be able to muster a majority on its own to form the government for the third consecutive time.
Meanwhile RR Patil, the state president of the Nationalist Congress Party, sounded very optimistic when he said that the NCP would bag 75 seats in the recently concluded Assembly polls, and that the Congress-NCP would return to power again with an absolute majority.
Speaking to journalist here on Friday, Patil dismissed the predictions of some exit polls that the NCP would get between 45 to 60 seats.
“I do not give any importance to what predictions the country’s survey organizations make. Whether it is the Lok Sabha polls or the Assembly polls in Gujarat or Uttar Pradesh, the exit poll results have never been accurate. We can look at these exit polls in form of entertainment,” Patil said.
In another development, with assembly elections over, the people of the state got a jolt when the state government increased the power tariff, which it had withheld enforcement for the past one month has implemented it soon after conclusion of voting for the state assembly.
