KOCHI: Kerala’s leftist government has claimed huge success for its efforts in promoting “copy-left” software that can be freely copied and distributed to build an “inclusive knowledge society.”
The Center for Advanced Training in Free Open Source Software on Wednesday reported 100 percent placement for its first batch of students.
Kerala was the first state in India to take the initiative to promote use of free open source software (FOSS) in their e-governance initiatives and introduce a course to develop FOSS-skilled professionals. Training for the next batch will start at the CATFOSS next month and the institute claims to have received over 75 applications.
Conceived by Richard Stallman in 1983, free or copy-left software can be used, copied, studied, modified and distributed without restrictions or with minimal restrictions.
