NAJRAN: Islamic Affairs Minister Saleh Al-Asheikh has urged imams and khateebs in Najran province to play a leading role in the fight against terrorism by cautioning the public, especially youths, against deviant ideologies.

“We have to confront every ideology that turns people from the right path and combat terrorist acts that are carried out by those who are similar to the Kharijites,” the minister told a meeting of the imams in Najran on Wednesday. “We have to give utmost importance to this issue,” he added.

Al-Asheikh urged the khateebs who deliver Friday sermons to be well-prepared.

“Delivering Friday sermons is an Islamic duty and you should make adequate preparation for that, using apt words and avoiding sentences that hurt the feelings of people and cause division,” he said. Al-Asheikh said the imams and khateebs should work for the public interest and set a good example to others by following the teachings of Shariah in their lives.

The minister said the prayer leaders should also emulate the great qualities of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). “They should follow the Prophet’s example of making short speeches,” he said.
