JEDDAH: The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) launched Kingdom’s largest online economic resource on Wednesday.
Muhammad Al-Fadl, chairman of the JCCI, said the SR12 million Jeddah Economic Gateway would provide information in both Arabic and English on the stock market, financial market, real estate, workers, population, investment opportunities, and economic research and reports.
It was launched in the presence of officials, economists and academics.
“It is a first of its kind set up by a Saudi chamber,” the chairman said, adding that it would provide information that would have been difficult to access in the past.
He said the website had three main goals: Documentation of all economic reports related to the business community in Jeddah and Saudi Arabia as a whole, facilitating the distribution of this information to decision makers, academics and researchers, and informing the business community about latest economic developments.
The website has eight main sections, the most important being the reports and studies that give an idea about the economic situation in the Kingdom.
Mustafa Sabri, secretary-general of the chamber, described the website as the largest information gateway in the region. “It provides a lot of information about economic and business activities in Jeddah, which accounts for about two fifths of economic activity in the Kingdom,” he said.
Muhiyuddin Hekami, head of the technical and information department, said the Jeddah Economic Gateway would provide information about the five-year development plans and achievements to date, government statements, private sector reports, the latest economic, social and human development indicators in addition to those of the infrastructure and economic and foreign sectors.
It will also provide information about the price of stocks, currencies, oil and the Jeddah electronic market in addition to a directory of commercial and industrial indicators and national and international exhibitions.
