JEDDAH: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between Saudi Transformers Company and the Belgian Power Systems Company (PSC) for the construction of an SR100 million transformer factory, the largest in the Gulf region with a production capacity of about 100 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA).
The MoU was signed by Saud bin Abdulaziz Al-Shilali, CEO of Saudi Transformers, and Francis Robrecht, vice president of the Belgian company, in the presence of Belgium’s Crown Prince Philippe. Al-Shilali said “this MoU paves the way for the construction of the first of its kind factory in the Kingdom and the largest in the Gulf region for production of power transformers.”
The factory will be built in the Second Industrial City of Dammam with the cooperation of the Belgian company. A capital of SR100 million has been assigned for the construction of the factory.
He added that the factory would be completed by the end of 2010 for the real production to commence in the beginning of 2011. The factory will fulfill the requirements of electricity sector in the Kingdom as well as the neighboring countries from power transformers.
The Belgian partner will provide the necessary technical support. Power Systems Company maintains business relations with the business sectors in the Kingdom and Gulf region with a history of more than 30 years as a principal supplier of electrical transformers and products.
