JEDDAH: Dizer-Lotus served notice of its potential as a hot Developmental Division title contender, beating Newtek-Em-LLC 80-74 and Facebook 93-85 on successive nights for a 2-0 start at the weekend in the Western Union Basketball League 2009-WPBL 11th Conference at the Ahmed Kaki Sport Complex basketball court.

Nanding Unas shot the go-ahead basket in Lotus’ victory over Newtek but it was Darwin Domingo who top-scored for the team with 18 points. Jun Banag added 12 points and five rebounds, RJ Dollentas had 11 and Jong- Jong Mamang and Evangelista each made 10 points.

Zenith Arabia made a triumphant return to the WPBL, crushing ELS Ballers 87-53 in an Open Skilled Division game on Friday. Zakarya Al-Baba scored 22 points with two rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots to pace Zenith. Abdulaziz Al-Zahrani tallied 16 points, two rebounds, three assists and one steal while crowd favorite Talal Al-Jihani made 14 points, two rebounds, four assists and one blocked shot.

Al Majal G4 S rode the breaks of the game to an 88-86 victory in overtime over King Fahd Armed Forces Hospital in the third game on Thursday.

The regulation period ended 75-75. The victory gave Al Majal a 2-0 record and the lead in the Inter-Company Division Group A. Jonel Lagon scored 25 points with three rebounds, 10 assists and three steals in a splendid display for Majal which also received 18 points from Anthony Manguera, 14 from Nimwel Trinos and 11 apiece form Alvin Villegas and Andrew Cruz.

GAC (General Agencies Corporation) scored its second win in three outings, 80-71, over Facebook in the first game Thursday, as Regondola, Abubakar, Diego Domalogdog and Norman Huerto scored 20, 18, 16 and 13 points in that order.

Hilton Hotel-Bison got back on track during the fourth weekend of the competition after an initial defeat with a 94-60 whipping of overmatched Zahid Tractor in another Inter-Company A game on Friday.

In a balanced offense, 12 players scored for Bison with five of them hitting double figures. Lucky Calma top-scored with 22 points, Gilbert Delos Santos, Joey Pagunsan and Robert Ortega each had 12 and Ariel Salazar added 10 points.

In the WPBL’s signature category, the Inter-Maguindanao, Sibuco defeated Pantar 99-89 with Arnain Amir and Saiden Amir sharing scoring honors with 25 points on Thursday.

Pantar returned to the court the next day to beat Iranon 98-64 thanks mainly to 18 points and 10 rebounds from Sallah Macadatar.
