JEDDAH: Four Jordanian expatriates have been sentenced to three years in jail and 1,000 lashes by the Jeddah Summary Court, for selling fake wristwatches on Saturday.
The flogging will be applied in installments. Police arrested the expatriates last year after citizens complained they were cheated into buying the imitation watches at huge prices. The con men told them they were Umrah pilgrims from the United Arab Emirates who had been forced to sell the watches after their money was stolen.
Meanwhile, drug peddlers, including a Saudi and four expatriates, have been jailed for between seven and 15 years.
Each member of the drug gang was also fined SR110,000 fine and will receive 250 lashes.
The Saudi was imprisoned for 10 years and banned from traveling abroad, while the gang leader will be deported after he serves his 15-year sentence.
