RIYADH: PNB Unified team mentored by Usman Navarro booked its fourth Team of the Week honors to become the new toast of the Interbank Tenpin Bowling Tournament being played Tuesday nights at the InterContinental Hotel Bowling Center here.
The top two contenders for Most Valuable Bowler this season shared the spotlight when they tied for the honor as Bowler of the Week. Banque Saudi Fransi team captain Jun Bantug and Bert Lopez, of Saudi Hollandi Bank, rolled a matching high series of 820 pinfalls to capture the weekly prestigious award.
PNB Unified stopped Bank Albilad’s winning streak by defeating them in straight sets 390-60. PNB kept the third spot in the team standings with excellent games from their five-man team. Jun Evangelista was top scorer with 819 followed by Ben Torrefiel (772), Allan dela Rosa (739), Gabby Javier (729) and Sony Alviso (670).
Bank Albilad kept the fifth position despite the defeat. SABB Securities Ltd. blanked sister team SABB Premier 260-0. Team captain Nelson Complido was at his best when he tallied a team high series of 763 followed by Luis Bonguit with 743. Dodie Vizcarra rolled 735 while Ramil Espiritu fired 722. Eden Bergonio had 663.
The match between ANB-SAMA and Saudi Hollandi Bank ended in a draw 2-all. However, ANB-SAMA edged SHB with 26 bonus points in the first game when they set new league records for high game scratch (1,013) and high game with handicap (1,086). Team captain Teody Zulaybar fired his best scratch score of 232 in the first game. He was supported by Clem Guelas, Bernie Torres, Freddie Solomon, Jun Macarandan and Jun Bolocboloc.
The consistent Lopez was chiefly the reason SHB ranks second in the team standings. Assisting Lopez at SHB were Ed Mendoza, Rodel Yap, captain Gerry Ayonon, Gil Hembra and Greg Antonio.
SABB Amanah EasyBuy continued improving their games by defeating new league leader Banque Saudi Fransi 210-180. Guest bowler Jerry Austria was the leading scorer with 790 followed by team captain Francis Guron (776), Arnold Jesena (703), Abdulaziz Al Qaseh (692) and Jaffer Al Kathiri (623).
BSF leveled the match at 2-all but lost by 30 extra points earned by their opponent in the first game. Bantug effectively employed an effective rotation as BSF scored enough points to stay in the lead for the second week. Yusuf Fernandez, Danny Encinas, Jess Bersamin, Edwin Timango, Ric Camara, AJ Bonifacio, Noel Morales, and Jerry Villanueva were the other players to score at BSF.
Alinma Bank blanked SABB Credit Cards 200-0 in the other match, while SAIB playing bye only managed 50 points.
