JEDDAH: Three months after the US Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) issued a recall notice for a number of products by Adams Extract & Spice, LLC, the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs issued an urgent circular ordering the removal of the products from store shelves.
The Jeddah municipality announced on Tuesday that its officials have been inspecting stores to ensure the removal of several Adams Extract and Spice products containing a specific lot of ground red pepper that tested positive for salmonella.
“Out of its concern for the public health, the municipality intensified its inspections of all places that might have these products in order to withdraw them and prevent their circulation,” said Bashir bin Mustafa Abu Najm, the director of the department in charge of commercial regulations in Jeddah.
Officials are also asking restaurants and purveyors to check their stocks to ensure they are not using the offending products.
On Aug. 7, the US watchdog issued a similar circular, listing the 12 products made by Adam Extract and Spice that contain the contaminated red pepper.
