JEDDAH: Municipal and Rural Affairs Minister Prince Mansour bin Miteb has emphasized the need to improve the efficiency of municipalities and mayoralties to extend better services to citizens and residents.
Speaking to reporters after conducting an inspection tour of municipal facilities in the holy sites, Prince Mansour said the lack of efficiency was one of the challenges being faced by the ministry, adding that an innovative approach was required to overcome this challenge.
During the tour, Prince Mansour launched the fourth phase of the Jamrat Bridge project in Mina, which has been implemented at a total cost of SR4.2 billion; the fourth phase cost SR480 million.
“We have to find out if citizens are satisfied with our work in terms of quantity and quality,” the minister told officials. He also called for a fair distribution of services across the country.
Prince Mansour stressed the importance of transparency and consultancy to improve municipal services.
“We should do our utmost to get rid of our previous faults and shortcomings,” he added. He said his office was open to everybody to present their viewpoints and proposals aimed at improving municipality services. The minister also said that studies were underway to distribute housing units, instead of land, to citizens living in underdeveloped areas of Jeddah.
Earlier on Wednesday, Prince Mansour visited the headquarters of Makkah mayoralty where he was greeted by Mayor Osama Al-Bar and his deputies.
During his tour, Prince Mansour inspected new municipality projects implemented in Makkah and other holy sites.
