JEDDAH: Police in Jeddah closed down Al-Rawabi district to hunt for a man in his 30s who stabbed his father to death, Al-Madinah daily reported. The son had accused the victim of damaging his car during an argument. He then took a knife and plunged it into his father’s heart, killing him instantly. The family tried to save the victim but to no avail. Police are searching for the son.
4 hurt in Makkah fish market fight
MAKKAH: Four expatriates were injured, one of them seriously, after a brawl involving weapons between a group of Egyptian and Bangladeshis at Makkah fish market on Thursday. Five people were arrested. Police said that there was an ongoing dispute between the two groups. They are still investigating.
US-Canadian pilgrims arrive
JEDDAH: A group of American and Canadian pilgrims arrived late Thursday night. Tawafa officials in Makkah greeted them. The first batch included 15 pilgrims from New York City and others from other states. It is expected over 400 pilgrims will arrive from the region in the next two days.
Arms, drugs, booze caught
JAZAN: The Border Guard foiled several attempts to smuggle weapons and drugs across the border from Yemen to Saudi Arabia over the past week. “The Border Guards seized 54 ammunitions, 10 pieces of various weapons, five magazines and 110 rounds of bullets and a number of grenades besides 390 kg of fireworks over the past week,” said an SPA statement. The confiscated contraband included 28,125 kg of qat, 19 kg of hashish and 45 bottles of liquor.
