DAMMAM: The candidate list has been finalized for the Eastern Region Chamber of Commerce elections next December.

A total of 36 candidates, including 26 traders and 10 industrialists will contest the elections, the Supervising Committee announced on Wednesday. There are three women on the trader list

The committee said trader candidate Abdullah Al-Ghannam pulled out of the race at the last moment after the end of the period for withdrawals and objections.

It added three men and a woman, also from the trader category, withdrew their candidacies and said so far no objections had been raised. Balloting will start on Saturday Dec. 19 and will continue until the next day in the cities of Jubail, Qatif, Ras Tanura, Al-Khafji, and Hafr Al-Batin.

Women will cast their votes at the chamber’s woman center on Dec. 21, while members of the Dammam chamber will vote on Dec. 22 and 23.

The committee has appointed 18 supervisors to monitor the balloting in six voting centers and said three women supervisors will soon be appointed to supervise at the female center.

It said the counting of votes would be computerized, although the machines will not accept wet or folded papers.
