RAMALLAH: Israeli forces arrested five Palestinians, including three security officials, near the West Bank city of Qalqilyah early Saturday.
Palestinian security sources told the Ma’an news agency that two of those detained work for the National Security Forces and the third was a member of the military police. The sources added that the three security men were arrested along with two civilians in a village northeast of Qalqilyah.
On Friday, the Israeli army arrested five Palestinian intelligence officers in the nearby town of Salfeet on suspicions that they were investigating a Palestinian suspected of collaborating with Israel. They were released later.
Gen. Adnan Al-Damiri, the spokesman for Palestinian security services, said, “Israel tries to weaken our capabilities to undermine our security plans.”
Al-Damiri told Arab News: “The arrests are intended to support the Israeli claims that the Palestinian people don’t deserve statehood since they are unable to manage themselves.”
