MINA: Thirteen bus drivers have been stopped from driving pilgrim buses after blood tests showed they had been taking illegal substances thought to be pills taken to stay awake. Dr. Ibraheem Al-Omar, head of the Laboratory and Blood Bank Department, said random blood samples were taken from drivers. He added three drivers refused to take the test. The tests were carried out to identify drivers who take drugs to stay awake, something that has been known to cause accidents in the past. Al-Omar said the authorities have also been carrying out awareness programs for drivers, explaining the dangers of taking drugs and the punishment that drug users can face. He added that the temporary centers have been set up to randomly inspect the 10,000 drivers working during the Haj.
