RIYADH: The Saudi Society for the Care of Orphans (Insan) said on Friday it received SR200,000 worth of lamb to feed poor families.
According to an anonymous official of the organization, the value of each slaughtered sheep was SR970, and the meat was being supplied through a coupon system with the help of a grocery.
“Through the coupon system we can provide for the families at their convenience sparing them the need for crowding at outlets,” said the officer, adding that the families usually consist of children and their mothers with no breadwinner.
“The children require close follow-up, which we provide with recurrent visits by social workers to view their status, fulfill their needs and ensure their well being,” said the officer, adding that the financial side it well organized through a debit card system.
Each member of the family is paid SR259 per month through this system, which is designed so that only certain amounts can be withdrawn for certain purposes.
“This way proved to be more efficient as it is safer than handing the orphans cash unsupervised,” said the officer.
Insan will organize Eid celebration for its families after the return from the Haj vacation, as there are 40 families who were sent by the committee to perform Haj.
“We usually organize a celebration for the children and their families, but sometimes companies, hospitals, banks and individuals offer to provide Eid celebrations for those orphans and their families,” said the officer.
