JEDDAH: The Jeddah Municipal Council has demanded a daily report on the status of the sewage lake and its dam.
The demand was made during a special meeting held on Tuesday. The municipal council decided to establish a committee to prepare a complete report on the urgent needs to solve Jeddah’s problems and to prevent the danger of floods in the future.
The municipal council demanded that cleaning efforts be speeded up and that it be provided a weekly report on progress made. The council demanded that it be provided with future plans and preparations to avoid such disasters. The council demanded that official media issue statements to clarify the current situation so as not to frighten people living near the lake.
In related developments, numbers of families in Quwaizah gathered to search for their missing family members. The family members believe that the number of missing people is greater than the number reported.
A Civil Defense spokesman, Capt. Abdullah Al-Amri, said that the number of people killed was 106 and that 10,000 people have been given accommodation in furnished apartments according to directives from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah. He said that the search for missing people was ongoing.
