RIYADH: A team has been formed to monitor the extent of the humanitarian crisis in Jeddah and its impact on both people and property. The team is also to observe government bodies in implementing directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah and to participate in easing the impact of this disaster and to suggest solutions to prevent such a thing happening again.
The president of the Human Rights Commission, Bandar Al-Iban, conveyed his deepest condolences to the king and his deputies and the families of the deceased. He commended the king for ordering compensation for the victims’ families.
Al-Iban praised King Abdullah for his direction to set up a committee headed by Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal. The causes of this disaster will be investigated and every government body or individual responsible in any way will be identified.
“The king is determined to address the Jeddah disaster in the best possible way, and to identify those accountable and punish them. This reflects his concern to exert all efforts to maintain life and dignity and protect each person’s rights and properties,” said the HRC president in a statement in which he wished the committee strength to carry out its mission.
