JEDDAH: The members of the special committee investigating the Jeddah floods visited areas that have been most affected by the deluge.
It was also reported that the number of people reported missing has increased to 49. No bodies have been recovered in the past 24 hours and the number of confirmed deaths remains at 116.
The Jeddah Municipality has also completed building 70 percent of a dirt dam, which they started working on at the end of last week, to protect residential districts surrounding the Musk Lake, east of the Jeddah-Makkah Expressway.
The dam is expected to be completed at the end of the week.
Members of the Jeddah municipal council also visited the Musk Lake and areas affected by the floods. Hussein Ba Akeel, head of the municipal council, told Arab News that this would not be the committee’s last visit. He said that they would document their observations and send them to Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs Prince Mansour bin Metib.
Many residents complained about the situation saying that things are moving slowly and that there has been little progress since the floods hit the city on Nov. 25.
