RIYADH: Zain, the newest player in the Kingdom’s mobile telecommunication market, has built two high-technology towers in Makkah that would ensure better communications during the pilgrimage seasons and in unpleasant weather conditions.
The effort to build such towers was commended by Abdulrahman Al-Jafari, governor of the Commission of Information Technology and Communications (CITC), here on Monday. “Zain has used high-technology to provide the best services for the pilgrims,” he added.
Zain, one of the leading mobile telecom providers in the Middle East and Africa, also announced the expansion of its groundbreaking “One Network” platform to Egypt in a strategic partnership with Mobinil. “Over 27 million Zain customers in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait and Sudan can now benefit from “One Network” services when visiting Egypt for business or pleasure,” said Ismael Fikree, Zain’s chief operations officer.
Referring to the special towers in Makkah, Fikree said that Zain Saudi Arabia approved the use of two innovated models for mobile telecom towers in the build-up of its network in the holy cities. “The design of the first type of towers complies with the sensitive high-density population of the holy cities,” he added.
Fikree said the special towers are equipped to ensure smooth functioning during crowded hours when telecommunications lines are normally clogged.
