JEDDAH: Fifty boy scouts and 30 of their commanders are helping out with relief activities in the flood-affected districts of Jeddah.
“Scouts have been participating in various relief activities since the beginning of the crisis,” said Muahmmad Bayunus, supervisor of the Scouts activities in Jeddah.
The scouts’ relief services are being coordinated by the Civil Defense and the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI), said Bayunus, adding that the Scouts come from across Jeddah.
“They are working with various Civil Defense committees to provide accommodation and distribute compensation to flood victims in the Civil Defense’s general administration office,” he added.
The supervisor said the scouts are also undertaking other services such as packing food baskets at the Jeddah Exhibition Center in collaboration with the JCCI and charities.
They work mostly in the evening, he added.
“The participation of school students and scouts in relief activities is a religious and national obligation besides an expression of social commitment,” said Abdullah Al-Thaqfi, director of education in Jeddah. He further congratulated scouts for helping out and said they are excellent role models.
