SAABAR: The search for an eight-month-old Afghan girl who was swept away in flashfloods on the Jeddah-Madinah highway were called off following the discovery of her body on Sunday night.
The girl’s tiny body was found by a group of workers in Saabar, an area on the Jeddah-Madinah highway.
The girl, named Fareda, had been reported missing by her father who had been carrying her when flashfloods swept her away.
Six teams of Civil Defense and police were searching for the girl, and any other people who may have gone missing in the floods. The teams scoured the entire area but were unable to find her body.
Workers discovered Fareda’s badly decomposed body on Sunday and reported the find to Rabigh police. The body was taken to Rabigh General Hospital and Fareda’s father identified the body as that of his daughter from her clothes, as her face was unrecognizable.
“I am so sad I lost my daughter. I couldn’t sleep since the day I lost her. I’m glad her body has been found. At least we can bury her and bury our sadness,” said the father.
