JEDDAH: The World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) is to sponsor the widow and three daughters of a Pakistani martial arts champion who drowned after saving 14 people, mostly Saudis, in the recent floods in Jeddah.
The nongovernmental Saudi charity made the decision after a delegation visited the home of Farman Ali Khan in a poor village in the Swat area of the North West Frontier Province of Pakistan.
The delegation also gave cash to Khan’s widow, conveyed their condolences to his family and visited his grave on a nearby mountain peak.
Farman is survived by his widow Parween, 29, their three daughters (Zubaidah, 7, Madiha, 5, and Jarirah, 2), his aged father, four brothers and five sisters.
The delegation also decided to reconstruct the village mosque which was devastated in recent military action in the area and build a school close by.
In a press statement on Wednesday, WAMY said it would do all it can to help Khan’s family. “Khan’s sacrifice is an example of true Islamic brotherhood. His heroic story will live for generations,” it said.
