RIYADH: The reign of SABB Amanah EasyBuy at the top of the team standings did not last long as the tournament approaches the final stage of the second round-robin.
Saudi Hollandi Bank fought back to reclaim the top spot as it booked its second Team of the Week award during the 21st week of the Interbank Tenpin Bowling Tournament at the Hotel InterContinental Bowling Center.
SHB defeated former champion Saudi Investment Bank 297-80 in a grueling four-game series. The trio of Bert Lopez, Efren Castro and Ed Mendoza lifted SHB to victory. They were assisted by teammates Gil Hembra, Rodel Yap, captain Gerry Ayonon and Greg Antonio.
SAIB managed to score 80 points during the second game when they beat SHB by small margin. Mike Benito was at his best with a four-game series of 756 followed by captain Dong Calub (714), Pido Villarosa (704) amd Ed Robillos (697). Boy Rogel and Edwin Fontiveros rolled 337 and 331 in two games.
The match between SABB Amanah EasyBuy and PNB Unified ended in a 2-2 draw. However, PNB Unified was in better shape this week as they gained extra 80 bonus points during the second and fourth games. The trio of Sonny Alviso, Jun Evangelista and Ben Torrefiel inspired their teammates as they retained the fourth spot in the standings 52 points adrift of leader SHB. SABB Amanah dropped to second spot after the session 17 points behind the new leader of the tournament.
Defending champion Banque Saudi Fransi slid to third spot when SABB Securities Ltd hammered them in three games 260-160. The five-man team captained by Nelson Complido was playing excellent games. Top scorer was guest bowler Romy Guron followed by Eden Bergonio, Ramil Espiritu and Luis Bonguit.
Bank Albilad almost blanked ANB-SAMA 254-80. Team captain James Frizzle was on top of his games when he tallied the high series with handicap of 816 and took home the Bowler of the Week accolade.
In the other match, Alinma Bank blanked SABB Premier team 230-0, while SABB Credit Cards playing bye this week failed to score any points in the tournament sponsored by all the participating banks and STC for commemorative gift items for 2009 awards night.
