RIYADH: The Kingdom is keen to provide quality education to expatriates’ children studying in international schools in the Kingdom, said Moiz Al-Qahtani, supervisor general of foreign schools at the Ministry of Education, here on Friday.
The official made the keynote address at the annual awards ceremony of the Sri Lankan International School in Riyadh. Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the Kingdom Ahmed Aflel Jawad was chief guest at the function held under the chairmanship of the school’s Principal M.E.M. Farook.
A.L.M. Hashim, chairman of the school’s board of management, also attended the event along with the school’s founder members.
Al-Qahtani said his ministry has provided the needed infrastructure and facilities to promote education in these institutions. He told students to respect and remember teachers who help them in receiving proper education with cultural values. He also congratulated students who have excelled in curricular and extra-curricular activities.
Jawad said the Riyadh school is the first Sri Lankan international school to be established on foreign land. The community should be thankful to the school for promoting education among Sri Lankan children in the capital. The envoy pledged his support to take the institution to new heights that would benefit both the parents and children. He also took the opportunity to thank teachers who coached students to obtain excellent results at public examinations.
Principal Farook said that the school, which has 845 students and 52 teachers, has performed well. He recalled that students have achieved more than 92 percent results in IGCSE and Edexcel examinations.
