MAKKAH: The national campaign to combat dengue fever has been extended another three months starting Dec. 17, Makkah’s mayor Osama Al-Bar announced on Tuesday. He confirmed the supreme authority had approved the extension.
Director of the Emergencies and Crises Department in the municipality Ezzat ibn Omar Sindi said Assistant to the Director of Preventive Medicine Dr. Abdul Hafeez Turkistani made a detailed presentation on the campaign’s efforts to engage with pilgrims about dengue fever during the recently concluded Haj season.
“This has greatly contributed to the curbing of the disease,” he said, adding no cases were registered during the Haj season according to Health Ministry statistics. Sindi said a specialist team is in place to handle dengue fever related incidents via the emergency Tel. 940.
He revealed 337,000 houses and 43,500 stagnant water spots have been fumigated during the last phase of the campaign.
