JEDDAH: Assistant Director of Preventive Affairs at the General Department of Narcotics Control Abdul Elah Al-Shareef said the awareness campaign on risks posed by drugs is aimed at students who will be going abroad.
The campaign, started by the department on Saturday and run in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education, intends to strengthen nationalism among scholarship students of both sexes while also helping to maintain their social values during their studies abroad.
Moreover, the program emphasizes the risks of drugs and reiterates their main mission is to learn from their experiences and studies and return well versed in their field of choice to serve their country.
The estimated number of those going abroad for studies is put at 8,300 young men and women. The two-week program will be held nationwide with 12 courses being slated: six for boys and six for girls. Specialists and academicians from the General Department of Narcotics Control conduct the courses.
Al-Shareef said the 70,000 students who are already studying abroad would also be brought under the program’s purview. Coordination is under way with officials of the program regarding providing these students with several books, pamphlets and circulars that will make them aware of the evils of drugs.
