RIYADH: Majed Al-Ghamdi won the first Bison MINI Cup Saudi Arabia championship by virtue of scoring the highest points in the overall ranking at the end of the 6th and final round of the tournament held on Zain Al-Reem International Circuit here recently.
Prince Bandar Al-Faisal, honorary President of Zain Al-Reem International Circuit, crowned Al-Ghamdi in the presence of Saudi Automobile Federation President Mishaal bin Fahd Al-Sudairy and Abdullah Abu Aljadayel, head of sponsorship.
Al-Ghamdi took pole in a tight qualifying session that saw 2 drivers qualify within parts of a second. Al-Ghamdi clocked 1.33.803. Prince Mohammed bin Fahd and Bandar Alireza came second and third respectively.
Being the winner of the title in terms of points scored, Al-Ghamdi was very quiet and left the action to his team-mate Prince Mohammed bin Fahd who won the round.
Despite the cold weather that gripped Al-Muzahmiah, the race was very exciting with a great number of motorsport enthusiasts around the track cheering and waving for the ten racers attempting to win the final round.
Prince Khalid bin Sultan Al-Abdullah Al-Faisal, the tournament organizer, expressed his happiness over the high level of performance and the sporting spirit shown by all participants. “Thank God for the successful conclusion of the tournament. The competition was very strong since the beginning of the race. Through the course of the race, we discovered a lot of talents in the motorsport area.
I congratulate the winner of the tournament and wish the other racers the best of luck in the coming seasons,” he said.
Al-Ghamdi said: “I am very happy for winning the title. From the beginning of the race, I tried very hard to get its title. I practiced very well for the final round and despite the fierce competition and some mechanical problems that I faced, we at Al-Faisal Racing Team, managed to get the trophy of this stunning race.”
Final results: Majed Al-Ghamdi of Al-Faisal Racing Team 101 points, Bandar Alireza of Zain Al-Reem Racing Team 93, Prince Mohammed bin Fahd of Al-Faisal Racing Team 88 and Medhat Sheikh Alardh of Zain Al-Reem Racing Team 74.
