JEDDAH: A fire broke out at the Center for Emergency Management located at the headquarters of the Civil Defense Directorate at King Abdullah Street in the Old Airport area of Jeddah on Sunday afternoon.
The fire was extinguished after it destroyed some tents and makeshift centers, an informed source told Arab News. No Civil Defense personnel were injured in the fire.
Brig. Muhammad Al-Qarni, media spokesman for the center, said he was not at the center when the accident took place and did not believe the fire was related to drill.
He added that he would provide further details once investigations are completed.
Al-Qarni also said that the number of people missing after November’s flood remained at 37.
Twenty committees comprising 20 Civil Defense officers, 20 officials from the Finance Ministry and 20 municipal engineers are investigating and assessing damage to properties in the flood, he said. Damage to 257 houses was assessed on Sunday.
