JEDDAH: The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) is making it easier for its affiliates to file paperwork wherever they are, thanks to a long-distance authentication project.
The new system is expected to become operational this year, IT director at the chamber Muhieddin Hikami announced on Monday. “The project is aimed at facilitating paperwork for all affiliates of the chamber from anywhere in the world through a state-of-the-art online system,” he told Arab News.
Hikami said the project would process about three million papers annually in various services including authentication, investment enquiries, commercial transactions, community activities and others. He said work on the project, which began last year, has come a long way and will eventually provide many free services to affiliates.
Hikami added over 100,000 people visited the JCCI’s main electronic business resource within only 70 days. The Jeddah Economic Gate provides data required by the business community, civic organizations and individuals to assess the economic situation of the Kingdom and enables them to formulate plans and studies on a scientific basis.
“This was the most important electronic project opened by the JCCI last year. It has achieved a giant leap in the field of data exchange,” Hikami said, adding that the scheme was aimed at enabling people to establish long-distance contact with the chamber.
“The Jeddah Economic Gate has become the main source of economic information about Jeddah. It contains a comprehensive database of economic and social activities in the city.” The Gate contains the latest information about the stock exchange, real estate, labor, housing and investment opportunities in Jeddah. The JCCI also has a program for online recruitment through a special site called “My Profession”.
The JCCI is now providing more than 20 services electronically including data updates, renewal of membership, electronic payment of fees, acknowledgement certificates, re-export permits in addition to circulars and chamber news.
