JEDDAH: Tellicherry Cricket Forum (TCF) is organizing its second annual tennis ball cricket tournament from Feb. 4. Twelve teams comprising Indian, Pakistani, Sri Lankan and other local players will play 15 day-night matches on a league-cum-knockout basis at Baghdadiyah mini football ground, opposite Madina Palace Hotel, on Feb. 4, 5, 10, 11 and 12, C.C.O. Ali, vice president of TCF, said at a press conference over the weekend.
Each team will play two matches in the first round and the top four teams will qualify for the semifinals. The final will be played on Feb. 12. Aside from the trophy, there will be man of the match prizes for all matches, and best batsman, best bowler, best fielder, best all-rounder and man of the tournament
awards.
The team displaying the utmost sportsman spirit and discipline will win the ‘Spirit of the Game’ award, said Ali who played as the opening bowler for Kerala in India’s domestic Ranji Trophy tournament in 1990-91.
The tournament trophy is named after its main sponsor Shifa Jeddah Polyclinic. Air Arabia and Aeroxpress Shipping & Logistics are also supporting the event, Ali said, adding that TCF was formed last year by a group of sports lovers from Tellicherry, a small coastal town in the northern part of southern Indian state of Kerala.
