JEDDAH: With the discovery of a man’s decomposed body on Sunday, the death toll from the Nov. 25 flash flooding in Jeddah has reached 123.

“Efforts are being made to identity the dead body that was found by a Civil Defense’s search team on Sunday afternoon,” Civil Defense Col. Muhammad Al-Shaabani, who is in charge of aquatic search and rescue, told Arab News. “DNA test will be conducted to know if his remains matches any one in the list of missing persons. Blood samples have already been collected from the relatives of all missing persons so that the identification process could be conducted quickly.” Al-Shaabani added that more bodies might be found as a thorough search has been launched in an area where a large body of stagnant water has been removed in Sawaed district.

Meanwhile, efforts to assess the damages to houses, rehabilitate and distribute the monetary aid to the victims of the flood are continuing.
