TAIF: The convoy carrying the body of police officer Sultan Al-Juaid, who was killed last week in a drug bust, has been involved in a car accident.
A police car following the ambulance, which was transporting the body for burial, overturned after a confrontation with a pickup truck, injuring the two officers inside.
Sultan’s brother Fahd, who was inside the ambulance, said that he received the body early on Monday from Truba General Hospital en-route to Al-Abbas mosque.
“We were in a convoy of three cars. The police car was in front, leading the ambulance and a Jeep carrying my relatives,” he said.
“A pick up truck began harassing us and tried to force the ambulance to pull over. The police officers warned the driver to move away but he ignored them.”
He said that the pickup driver created confusion on the road, which resulted in the jeep crashing into the police car. The ambulance barely avoided the accident.
“We pulled over and then there was another driver that pulled over and started to verbally abuse us,” he added.
“I tried to explain that we have a dead man inside the ambulance and we were on our way to bury him but he refused to listen. I called the police station to inform them about the attacker and the two injured police officers.”
Ten minutes later a police unit arrived and arrested the pickup truck driver and the other man.
Officers, however, denied the incident had anything to do with the dead police officer.
