JEDDAH: Radwa Food Production Company said Tuesday that Monday’s fire at the company’s poultry farm along the Jeddah-Madinah Highway had little impact on its supply.
“The impact of the fire was very limited,” the company said in its first reaction to a blaze that engulfed the production line.
“Poultry supply to distribution outlets has continued despite the fire as the company operated an alternative production line,” the official statement said.
Abdul Hadi Taher, chairman of the company’s board of directors, said they were not blaming anyone for the fire. “We consider it fate and divine decree and believe that what God wills, will happen.”
He thanked the Civil Defense officers for their efforts for extinguishing the fire in record time and preventing it from spreading to other departments of the company. The Civil Defense sent 12 firefighting teams to the site to put out the blaze.
“We also thank Saudi Red Crescent officers for their presence in the area from the beginning of the fire until the end,” Taher said.
The chairman thanked the company’s officials for handling the crisis efficiently and most responsibly.
The company officials acted quickly to evacuate the fire site and informed the Civil Defense and other authorities quickly.
“We thank God that no employee was injured as a result of the fire. This is a great blessing. For us the safety of our employees is more valuable than money,” Taher said.
The fire did not affect the company’s poultry rearing area, fodder factory and warehouses, incubators and other sections. “This helped us to continue production and fulfill our commitments to customers and distributors,” Taher said.
He said the company would intensify production to meet the growing requirements of customers who, he added, have great confidence in its products. “Radwa poultry is sold in neighboring countries,” he said.
Radwa poultry farm, located some 60 km north of Jeddah, has received international acknowledgment for its quality management processes. Radwa holds ISO14001:2004 which confirms the company’s status as an eco-friendly producer.
The farm covers an area of 16 square kilometers and is among the largest in the Kingdom, accounting for about 10 percent of the country’s annual production. Poultry is a major source of protein in the Kingdom. Per capita consumption in the Kingdom averages 48kg per annum.
