JEDDAH: The Civil Defense brought under control a big fire which broke out Wednesday in an oil refining factory in the Industrial City to the south of Jeddah.

According to a spokesman of the Civil Defense, no one was hurt in the fire started at three upper tanks of the internal oven of the factory. He said the Civil Defense received information about the fire and immediately dispatched four fire-fighting brigades who put out the fire in a record time. The spokesman said this was not the first fire in this factory. “Fire broke out a few months back in the same place. The officer investigating the causes of the fire will submit a report about the safety measures being applied by the factory,” he said. The spokesman warned if the factory were found to be ignoring the safety measures, it would be severely punished. “The factory may be closed down if we are sure that it ignored safety procedures,” he said.

The spokesman gave no estimation of the material losses but said no one of the employees or the personnel of the Civil Defense was hurt.
