Gunmen kill 3 in Thailand’s south
YALA, Thailand: Suspected insurgents Thursday shot dead and burned a Buddhist couple and attacked a family of four, killing the father, as fresh violence hit Thailand’s troubled south, police said.
A 51-year-old man and his wife, 42, were on a motorcycle on their way to work when attackers gunned them down in Pattani, the capital of the province of the same name.
The gunmen then doused the Buddhist couple’s bodies with gasoline and torched them in the middle of the road, police said.
7 killed in clash outside Manila
MANILA: Seven communist guerrillas, three of them minors, were killed in a clash with government forces on Thursday in the hills outside the Philippine capital, the army said.
An army infantry unit fought a 30-strong group from the New People’s Army (NPA) near the town of Dona Remedios Trinidad, 50 kilometers north of Manila, before dawn.
The bodies of the seven dead rebels were recovered by the troops, who sustained no casualties during the hour-long firefight. The retreating rebels left behind eight assault rifles along with the dead.
